High Energy Physics, Research and Computing

  • Ph.D., Physics, Northern Illinois University, 2006
  • M.S. , Physics, Moscow Engineering Physics Institute,1993

Professional experience:

2019-present

In 2019 joined the NIU Center for Research and Development (CRCD). Led the team as an Acting Director (2019-2021); Director of Science and Engineering starting in 2021. Supervising the NIU HPC clustera operations, supporting more than 35 NIU research projects. Under these projects, 50 research proposals requesting 20.5M dollars were submitted, from which 20 were funded totaling 6.2M.

2015-2019

In 2015 joined the Mu2e experiment at Fermilab to work on the scintillation Counters for the Cosmic Ray Veto (CRV) system. Developed an analysis framework for certification SiPM detectors for the CRV. Since 2016 work with the CMS experiment on the hadron calorimeter upgrade. Developed the DRS4-based DAQ and waveform analysis to study SiPM-on-Tile detectors at Fermilab Test Beam Facility. In 2019 joined the DUNE collaboration.

2010-2015

Designed and supported compute clusters for the ATLAS Collaboration data analysis at Northern Illinois University and California State University (Fresno). In 2011-2014 developed the linux-based Back-End DAQ system (~2500 data channels) for the Phase II pCT scanner.

2007-2010

Coordinator of the NIU/Delhi University group for searches of new particles using D0 data (including standard model Higgs boson in ZH channel). With the D0 New Phenomena and Higgs groups conducted (2008-2010) "Search for scalar bottom quarks and third-generation leptoquarks" using the 5.2 fb-1 dataset. Participated in the development of the data acquisition framework (beam tests) for the detector prototype for future electron-positron International Linear Collider (2007).

2002-2006

Since 2002 work for Northern Illinois Center for Accelerator and Detector Development (NICADD). Developed the computational cluster for the NICADD Detector and Accelerator groups. Conducted analysis of the D0 data: "A Search for Charge 1/3 Third Generation Leptoquarks In Muon Channels" (Ph.D., NIU, 2006). Prepared the Phys. Rev. Letters publication "Search for Third Generation Scalar Leptoquarks".

1999-2002

Since 1999 member of the D0 collaboration, FNAL, USA. Developed and implemented fast muon track-finding algorithms for the D0 L2 muon Trigger (VME based hardware and TI DSP processors), "The Level-2 Muon Trigger at D0", IEEE Trans. Nucl. Sci. 49, 1589 (2002).

1996-1999

Member of CMS collaboration at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN), Switzerland. Study/design of the Very Forward calorimeter module.

1993-1996

MIS ITEP experiment, Institute for High Energy Physics, Protvino, Russia. Assembled and calibrated and the electromagnetic calorimeter for the experiment. Worked out an algorithm for analysis of calorimeter information.
