Minutes of A0 photoinjector (local) meeting Friday Jan 23rd, 2004 * Next meeting: Friday January 30th 4pm in "the Motel" * Plan for next week: -Monday: Laser studies (Rodion/Jamie) Adrian suggested checking alignement onf the laser in the transport line, to see whether the beam is not missing one of the mirror (beam looks awfull (=structured) on virtual cathode and so is the e- beam) -Tuesday: CTR studies (Daniel) studies bunch length for different settings of the chicane and 9-cell phased -Wednesday: Beam studies [gun] (Philippe/ Jason) -Thursday: CTR studies (Daniel) continue studies of Tuesday -Friday: Beam studies [9-cell?] (Philippe) Discussions: * Achievements of last week: - Monday, - impact of laser on electron beam was studied for various settings of doubling crystal orientation. Strong distortions of e- beam on X8 and XS3 were observed depending on crystals setttings (Rodion + Philippe). - [bad] event during our studies, X3 slits fell into the beamline (screws unscrewed themself dues to vibrations...) - Tuesday: - cave open for finishsing installation of plasma experiment (Matt/Jamie) - vacuum work on X3 to fix Monday event (Wade/Mike/Rocky) - Wednesday: - North cave was running which prevented us from running the 9-cell. The gun was ran and some gun studies (phase scan versus peak field in the gun + coupler kick) were done (Philippe) - Thursday: - (morning) radiation safety commissionned the beam dump (Gary/Jamie.Matt) PS: WE WERE (AND ARE) NOT ALLOWED TO RUN MORE THAN 1 BUNCH IN THE STRAIGHT AHEAD DUMP - (afternoon) beam through plasma chamber (Matt/Philippe) with rather good charge transmission (3 nC) in the chamber but 30% transmission from photocathode (9 nC) to entrance of plasma chamber (3 nC) -- compressor was off. - Friday - continue on optimizing transport through the plasma chamber, compressor was turned on and transmission was greatly improved compared to Thursday night (Matt/Jamie). An attempt to turn on the plasma was done, but a failur of a feedthrough prevented to continue the Matt's experiment (vacuum work will be needed) ----------------------------------------- * Tasks concerning hardware H2/ Corrector HTBX06, Jamie Steerer from UCLA here, will be installed MONDAY JAN 26 H8/ calibration of upstream directional coupler and insulator (Markus need to speak to Tim and with Kai to schedule this STATUS?) H11/ Some of the toroid need cabling to have signal available out of the cave in the reack area (JAMIE, STATUS?) H13/ Pulse stacker, what do we do? (Rodion) H14/ air coil steerers, Kai will gather all the paper he has and we will decide whether we can give this project to one of the NIU engineering student (Kai, STATUS: nobody at NIU picked up this project...) H20/ what shall we do with the burnt doubling crystal? Who will specify + order it? (Nick, Rodion and Adrian should discuss next week) H21/ the laser uniformity problem can this be due to the new (since late summer) tight focusing in the doubling crystal area to improve conversion efficency? (Rodion/Adrian: Rodion will design a procure a new 4*omega beamline parallel to the present one) H22/ Radiation shielding test: precise plan on what to do and when (Kai + Lautenschlager) H23/ laser spare components list (Jamie)
