Minutes of A0 photoinjector (local) meeting Friday Jan 16th, 2004 * Next meeting: Friday January 23rd 4pm in "the Motel" * attendees: Rodion, Marcus, Nick, Kai, Daniel, Matt and Philippe * Plan for next week: -Monday: Laser studies + impact on e- beam. (Rodion + Philippe) -Tuesday: Morning: cave open Afternoon: dedicated to plasma (Matt et al.+ Nick) -Wednesday: North cave will run. We may run in the morning the gun (Philippe). In the afternoon we may be able to run the 9-cell (Kai?) and support Daniel work on the interferometer -Thursday: Plasma (Matt et al., + Nick) -Friday: Depending on Plasma experiment progress, Plasma otherwise longitudinal beam dynamics studies (Daniel + Philippe) Discussions: * Rodion presented his impression on the ATF photocathode drive laser at BNL. * Achievements of last week: - Monday, Tuesday: - installation of the Plasma experiment (Matt, et al.). - Wednesday: beam through the machine: (Kai) - Thursday and Friday: - longitudinal beam dynamics studies (Daniel/Philippe), no great progress we had problem in recovering the CTR signal from the Michelson interferometer. The device was found to be broken, a mirror had felt from its support the problem was fixed and we could see a signal (interferomgram Friday). However due to network (?) problem with the GPIB device we could not take a good set of data... - laser studies (Rodion/Nick): streaked the laser pulse time profile looks alright but quite long ~15 ps FWHM - beam studies (Philippe/Rodion): the electron beam still display a strong asymmetry in x-y that appears as beam skewness or multi-spot depending on which OTR viewers the e- beam is observed. This problem has been existing since late summer and prevent us from doing real progress. It appeared to few of us (after some discussion) this might be related to a change in optics that occured in September or October in the doubling crystal area of the laser: at that time it was decided to focus the laser tighly to increase the conversion efficency there were questions about potential phase mis-matching and operation of crystal close to saturation. We need to check whether returning to the initial configuration however will provide a better (=more uniform) beam and to what price in term of beam charge. ----------------------------------------- * Tasks concerning hardware (I updated the list today since we did not meet for almost a month: you will noticed many item have been resolved!) H2/ Corrector HTBX06, Jamie Matt asked a Steerer at UCLA it will be sent this tuesday H8/ calibration of upstream directional coupler and insulator (Markus need to speak to Tim and with Kai to schedule this STATUS?) H11/ Some of the toroid need cabling to have signal available out of the cave in the reack area (JAMIE, STATUS?) H13/ Pulse stacker, what do we do? (Rodion) H14/ air coil steerers, Kai will gather all the paper he has and we will decide whether we can give this project to one of the NIU engineering student (Kai, STATUS: nobody at NIU picked up this project...) H20/ what shall we do with the burnt doubling crystal? Who will specify + order it? (Nick, Rodion and Adrian should discuss next week) <- NEW H21/ the laser unifomity problem can this be due to the new (since late summer) tight focusing in the doubling crystal area to improve conversion efficency? <- NEW (All the laser gurues) H22/ Radiation shielding test: precise plan on what to do and when (Kai + Lautenschlager) <- NEW
