Minutes of A0 photoinjector (local) meeting Friday Feb 13th, 2004 * Next meeting: Friday February 20th 4pm in "the Motel" * Plan for next week: -Monday: - morning: laser work (if sork stated Friday not finished) otherwise do some streak camera measurement [Rodion + Philippe if streak cam.] - afternoon: tune-up beamline for propagating beam up to the dump [Markus] -Tuesday: - morning: dump test plan [Garry + Markus] - afternoon: Start installation of Matt's Spectrometer [Matt/Wade et al.] -Wednesday: - morning: continue installation - afternoon: round beam studies [Philippe + Kai] -Thursday: - morning: round beam studies [Kai + Philippe] - afternoon: Plasma [Matt et al.] -Friday: - Plasma [Matt et al.] Discussions: * Achievements of last week: - Monday: - rf-gun steering [Philippe]. More data were taken, and a preliminary analysis indicate that though the observation are different from what we used to observe they seem to be consistent (in a qualitative way) with simulations. - Some problem with the 9-cell prevented us to run the beam up to the spectrometer. - Tuesday: - cave open, the straight ahead dump was moved per the Safety people request, and work was done on Matt's experiment (a feedthrough was changed) [Wade et al.] - laser work [Rodion]: the beam was resteered to try to avoid a burn mark in the IR-to-green doubling crystal this did not improve the beam quality though. - Wednesday: - worked with Safety people to test the radioactivity level with the newly configurated dump [Markus, Kai, + Garry] resulting in more lead added on the new beamline [Wade et al.] - More data were taken on the 9-cell phase slow variation and a clear correlation with the 9-cell tune was observed a slow feedback to maintain the 9-cell phase constant was set-up using an octave script [Markus] - Thursday: - Beam spot measurements [Kai+ Jamie]: no report/analysis of what conditions were measured yet. - Plasma [Matt + Nick + Jamie R.]: a quadrupole scan was attempted downstream of the plasma aluminum window and showed an emittance of about 60 mm-mrad consistent with expectation. This type of emittance should allow the beam to be refocused to a tight enough beam for Matt's experiment. There was also some work on the plasma source trigger. - Friday - Beam spot measurements [Kai+ Jamie]: no report/analysis of what conditions were measured yet. - run plasma experiment, work on triggering of the plasma source ----------------------------------------- * Tasks concerning hardware H8/ calibration of upstream directional coupler and insulator (Markus need to speak to Tim and with Kai to schedule this STATUS?) H11/ Some of the toroid need cabling to have signal available out of the cave in the reack area (JAMIE, STATUS?) H13/ Pulse stacker, what do we do? (Rodion) H14/ air coil steerers, Kai will gather all the paper he has and we will decide whether we can give this project to one of the NIU engineering student (Kai, STATUS: nobody at NIU picked up this project...) H20/ what shall we do with the burnt doubling crystal? Who will specify + order it? CRYSTALS FROM CASIX ORDERED (FEB-04, 2004) (Nick, Rodion and Adrian should discuss next week) H21/ the laser uniformity problem can this be due to the new (since late summer) tight focusing in the doubling crystal area to improve conversion efficency? (Rodion/Adrian: Rodion will design and procure a new 4*omega beamline parallel to the present one) H22/ Radiation shielding test: precise plan on what to do and when (Kai + Lautenschlager) H23/ laser spare components list (Jamie, RECEIVED A FIRST VERSION JAN-30, 2004)
