Activities of FNPL from 02/07 - 02/11 Friday Feb 11 th, 2005 minutes at: http://nicadd.niu.edu/fnpl/Operation/Minutes/ * Plan for next week: Monday: laser day - work on improving/understanding the problem with laser time shape/length - do some test of the pulse stacker - cave needs to be closed since UV will be streaked - in parallel: try to understand the limitation on gun klystron (why power cannot go higher than 47 mV on forward power diode) Tuesday: [Yin-e, Philippe, Jianliang, Rodion] - finish some work on the laser pulse stacker - flat beam experiment starts Wednesday: [Philippe, Yin-e] - flat beam experiment - scheduled visit from 10 am to 11 am cave needs to be open [Philippe, Jianliang, Rodion] Thursday/ Friday: - more flat beam or round beam, depends on progress NOTE: Monday 02/21, Matt is here for three weeks. * Last week activities: - Monday a set of data on multipacting were taking the laser was not needed [Ray]. In parallel Jianliang and Rodion worked on the laser (trying to improve the two pass performance) -- we had some transverse beam spot distortion. These distortions were finally corrected. Started conditionning 200 kW rebuilt klystron . - Tuesday UV pulse length measurement were performed. North cave was running. 200 kW rebuilt klystron conditionnning. - Wednesday: switch back to old 200 kW klystron (rebuilt klystron not yet ready) and started beam. We ran beam up to spectrometer and had trouble with some big jitter. Mike Kucera came in the afternoon try to track the problem. - Thursday: Mike Kucera continue working on the trigger problem which appear coming from one of the IRM. Mike found the problem was indeed due to an attenuator in the system that went bad - Friday: flat beam started experiment but had problem with beam quality; found out the laser had drifter to a long pulse with several peaks. Jianliang worked on optimizing the laser for the rest of the day ACTION ITEM updated: Mon Feb 14 10:45:52 CST 2005 H8/ calibration of upstream directional coupler and insulator (Markus need to speak to Tim and with Kai to schedule this STATUS?) H13/ Pulse stacker, what do we do? (Rodion) H21/ the laser uniformity problem can this be due to the new (since late summer) tight focusing in the doubling crystal area to improve conversion efficiency? On going work [Rodion] H33/ laser fluctuation since June 1st week [FIXED?] H34/ Need more work on power supply + devise a way to measure the current being put out to the magnet [Jamie] H36/ laser room/table vibration studies [Rodion] H39/ streak camera new optics for plasma OTR and UV laser streaking. [Jamie, Greg, Rodion, Philippe] H40/ installation of UIUC experiment, beamline design [Philippe] H41/ OTRI experiment [Greg] H42/ revisit EO sampling experiment [Jianliang] H43/ laser cooling system upgrade [Jamie-> discuss with Adrian, Jianliang,Rodion Req written up -> Helen] H44/ do we need to get our rf system out of the TeV LCW and Why [Jamie/Philippe] #.44 from Adrian Melissinos: NEEDED LASER STUDIES: 2. beam profile (wavefront) studies both in IR and UV in laser room and on virtual cathode. Use spatial filters 3. study of doubling and quadrupling efficencies with old and new crystal, take a tuning curve POSSIBLE LASER UPGRADE PROJECTS 1. Measure IR pulse length before compression (use diode?) implement cw autocorrelation 2. Install new beamline between multipass and 2-pass -- install spatial filter, rebalance 2-pass amplifiers 4. _harware_: replacing all coolers with new system IV + use existing system III as back-up (see H43) 5. pulse stacker studies, new pulse stacker R&D (see H13)
